How does your practice define a qualified recipient for a preceptorship?: We have clinical training opportunities available at NOVA Natural Birth Center in Chantilly, Virginia. We are accepting applications for immediate placement in our program.
About NOVA Natural Birth Center:
•       We have 4 NARM-qualified preceptors at the birth center.  You can learn more about our preceptors athttp://novabirthcenter.com/Midwives/Midwifery/WhatIsAMidwife.aspx.
•       Our midwives have trained many student midwives over the years. Our practice has always had a strong commitment to helping student midwives receive excellent training.
•       We have a volume of 12-25 births per month.
•       About 75% of the women plan to give birth at the birth center. The other 25% plan to give birth at home.
•       We have 4 days of clinical visits per week, as well as opportunities to attend postpartum home visits and prenatal home visits.
•       You will have the option to choose the days you are on call. Our students work with each other to develop their own call schedule. We offer this to accommodate work and family commitments so our students can have balance in their lives.
•       We require our Supervised Primary Midwife students to attend at least 1 day per week for clinic visits, as well as at least 3 days of on-call time per week.
•       We do not currently charge a fee to our students for the opportunity to learn with us.

What we’re looking for:
•       Experienced student midwives seeking Supervised Primary clinical experiences will receive top priority in consideration. However, we do have space for student midwives of all experience levels.
•       Students should plan a minimum 3 month commitment. We prefer longer commitments (6-12 months or more), but will consider students who are only able to commit to 3 months.
•       Bilingual preferred, but not necessary.
•       Students in a MEAC-accredited program are preferred.
•       While we welcome applications from experienced students, we are actively seeking applications from student midwives of color. As we learn more and more about the disparities in outcomes for babies and mothers of African descent especially, it is clear that there is a great need for more midwives of color.
We offer diverse learning opportunities and a supportive learning environment at NOVA Natural Birth Center. If you would like to be considered for this opportunity, please forward us your resume with cover letter.

How does your practice define a qualified recipient for a preceptorship?: Qualified recipients are currently enrolled in a MEAC-accredited program.  Because my practice is relatively small (I attend about 2 births/month), this site might be best for a student at the beginning of her training, although I am happy to take a more advanced student who is not anxious about "getting her numbers."  Advanced students who serve as birth assistants get compensated @ $250/birth.
