How does your practice define a qualified recipient for a preceptorship?: This position is for an experienced student only. This placement will be a short term placement open immediately through January 1st. Student must be doing primary births, be certified in NRP and CPR. Phlebotomy skills ideal but not required. This student will be expected to attend all births and most clinic days. This is a great opportunity in a moderately sized birth center practice we do physicals, well person exams, IV’s and lots and lots of breastfeeding support!

What is included in scholarship: Our standard apprenticeship lasts two plus years. Our apprenticeship is a work study program plus admin fees (http://www.familybirthservices.com/apprenticeship-program.html). Our regular student fees are $300 for the first month. and $75 per month afterwards for live out students, and $150 per month afterwards for live in students for the duration of the apprenticeship. The admin fees will all be waived for students of color for the full apprenticeship, but it will still be necessary for them to participate in the full time work study exchange. If they choose the live in option, this would include accommodations on site. This apprenticeship will provide all the clinical experience required to achieve the CPM credential, including primary births, but does not include the academic component. Our next opening is summer 2018 and we accept a new student approximately every 9 months.

How does your practice define a qualified recipient for a preceptorship?: We have clinical training opportunities available at NOVA Natural Birth Center in Chantilly, Virginia. We are accepting applications for immediate placement in our program.
About NOVA Natural Birth Center:
•       We have 4 NARM-qualified preceptors at the birth center.  You can learn more about our preceptors athttp://novabirthcenter.com/Midwives/Midwifery/WhatIsAMidwife.aspx.
•       Our midwives have trained many student midwives over the years. Our practice has always had a strong commitment to helping student midwives receive excellent training.
•       We have a volume of 12-25 births per month.
•       About 75% of the women plan to give birth at the birth center. The other 25% plan to give birth at home.
•       We have 4 days of clinical visits per week, as well as opportunities to attend postpartum home visits and prenatal home visits.
•       You will have the option to choose the days you are on call. Our students work with each other to develop their own call schedule. We offer this to accommodate work and family commitments so our students can have balance in their lives.
•       We require our Supervised Primary Midwife students to attend at least 1 day per week for clinic visits, as well as at least 3 days of on-call time per week.
•       We do not currently charge a fee to our students for the opportunity to learn with us.

What we’re looking for:
•       Experienced student midwives seeking Supervised Primary clinical experiences will receive top priority in consideration. However, we do have space for student midwives of all experience levels.
•       Students should plan a minimum 3 month commitment. We prefer longer commitments (6-12 months or more), but will consider students who are only able to commit to 3 months.
•       Bilingual preferred, but not necessary.
•       Students in a MEAC-accredited program are preferred.
•       While we welcome applications from experienced students, we are actively seeking applications from student midwives of color. As we learn more and more about the disparities in outcomes for babies and mothers of African descent especially, it is clear that there is a great need for more midwives of color.

How does your practice define a qualified recipient for a preceptorship?: Qualified recipients are currently enrolled in a MEAC-accredited program.  Because my practice is relatively small (I attend about 2 births/month), this site might be best for a student at the beginning of her training, although I am happy to take a more advanced student who is not anxious about "getting her numbers."  Advanced students who serve as birth assistants get compensated @ $250/birth.

How does your practice define a qualified recipient for a preceptorship?: We have a practice serving women in the Shenandoah Valley with 2-4 women a month. We are looking for committed women, women of color, who want to learn the art and science of midwifery care. Long term is better, if possible. We are looking for all stages of students, beginners as well as experienced. I have application that I can send to interested parties.There is no cost to apprentice with this practice. We offer home and cottage birth options. We do two clinic days a week.

How does your practice define a qualified recipient for a preceptorship?: An ideal student is eager to learn and ready to participate in this growing birth center and established homebirth practice. We are a new birth center and growing fast. We currently do 4-10 births a month. We have three midwives as preceptors, one African American ( also the owner). We serve 86% families of color and are open and affirming of GLBTQ families. Student will be expected to find their own housing but we are happy to assist. It will be extremely difficult to have outside employment. We do 4 clinic days a week between 2 locations. More information upon request.
